Jon Chu Teases JOE 3 Character...

If you haven’t seen G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and still care want to preserve the surprise of what happens in it, it’s probably best you don’t read any further into this piece.

So…there’s the spoiler warning.

When last we saw Channing Tatum’s Duke character in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, he was pretty much dead.  But, it seems, just because he’s dead…doesn’t mean we might not see him again in the now-scripting third installment of the franchise.

Returning RETALIATION director Jon Chu is currently at work developing the next JOE project with Evan Daugherty (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNSTMAN and the forthcoming NINJA TURTLES film), and discussed the possibility Tatum’s return to franchise with MTV.

"You never know," Chu teased. "Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who's coming back and who's not."

…Chu says HERE.

A definite?  Not even close, and it's important not to read too much into what may've been little more than a coy aside.  But, nor is it a denial.  As for how Duke's possible return might come about?  In the JOE franchise, any number of sleights of hand could work - each making about as much sense as the next.  Or, perhaps we’ll see a Tatum flashback of some sort?  Or a clone.  Or a photo on someone’s desk like Daddy Jones in KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.  Or…
