Here's another story right from ComiCon to Father Geek to you, our AICN readership. You know one of the things I love about these large Fan Gatherings is the sheer volume of news ones overhears wandering around the dealer's room, or standing in line for autographs, or films. I've been attending these events since 1969 and I took Harry to his first San Diego ComiCon in the summer of 1972 when he was just 7 months old. That year he slept in a dresser drawer in our El Cortez Hotel room, or under our table in the dealers room. He attended every one of these events throughout the 70's. It's probably why he's so good at sniffing out fanboy rumors, he just grew into it. Well, here's another bit of interesting news... Check it out...
A little news from the San Diego Con that I was waiting to see if one of your other spys got a hold of first, but it would seem that it still hasn't reached your site.
At famed Babylon 5 and very hot comic book writer, J. Michael Straczynski panel Saturday afternoon. The author announced that just the day before he had inked a deal to write a screenplay based on his comic book series, "Rising Stars". He said that the producers last film credit was Three Kings which wouldn't surprise me a bit if Village Roadshow was to be the ones to get their hands on such a hot property.
"Rising Stars" currently only up to it's 9th issue. Tells the story of a small town where due to a bit of cosmic phenomena many of the towns residents suddenly find themselves with superpowers. Straczynski's first story arc was a gritty introduction to how the average person would react if they had to grow up and live day to day with superpowers or super powered people living around them. Straczynski next storyline jumps ahead 10 years to where the world is now ruled by the superhumans and looks back at what happened to bring things up to that point.
Where a literary genius like Straczynski will take the screenplay, we wont know for a year or two in all likelihood. Let's just hope it's another comic film on par with the X-Men. (I.E. No nipples on costumes)
Good, Bad, I'm the Guy With the Gun.
