Here's the lowdown sent to Father Geek on a Film Festival being held in Russia...
AICN RUSSIA???
Hey Harry and fellow aicn-ers
Hey Harry and fellow aicn-ers
I have the fortunate (or unfortunate) luck of working and living in Russia. While being here definitely has its ups and downs, a rather big up is beginning tomorrow: the 22nd international Russian film festival. A friend of mine was able to hook me up with a pass to all the screenings, so I will be immersing myself in film festival insanity for the next 10 days and reporting the good the bad and the straight up ugly as they happen.
Over 150 films will be screened at this years festival with a rather huge representation made by Asian films. There are a few retrospective sections in the festival. One will be dedicated to Phillip Noyce and his features ( perhaps, best known for the last few Jack Ryan films) and in what has to be one of the damned coolest events of the festival a Tarantino retrospective. I know what you are thinking "big deal, Tarantino's films." Well, lemee tell you pal' not only are his films being presented but he is suppose to teach a one-off sort of film class. If that's not freakin' cool I am not sure what is.
Also in attendance will be William Friedkin, Tommy Lee Jones And Sam Jackson. Who are all here to promote the European opening of Rules Of Engagement. Many others are rumored to come, I will find out for sure tomorrow and report back. The list below is of the films playing at this years festival.
If any film geeks are heading to Moscow for the fest. or currently reside here, drop me a line. Maybe we can hook up for a show or two ( exiledsucker@yahoo.com)
