This Week's Saturday Shorts: An Explosion of Genres!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's selection of Saturday Shorts with a lovely assortment of fun flicks for you to check out. No joke, I literally wrote this article out about an hour ago when Bam! the universe conspired against me and my computer crashed. Now that's a lovely unexpected bit of "Wait... no... really??" I'd be bummed (and was for a moment there) if I didn't think I had some kickass shorts that are absolutely worth my time to share with you all. And hey, talk about variety - we've got a hell of a lot of genres represented this week. "Muldoon, I haven't seen a doc here in a while, you've just been showing horror stuff - what gives, buddy?" Well friends, you're absolutely right. I've been on a horror kick for a few weeks now and realized I needed to switch gears and drive on into new genre loving lands. Comedy? Check. Docs? Yep. Action? Better believe it. Gallactic porn? Yes... wait no - that one's definitely a no (for this week). Below we've got a handful of fine films submitted by some damn fine filmmakers, filmmakers who apparently also read AICN (which still blows my mind how many creative filmmakers there are in the audience). So hey, if you really dig a film, pipe up and say something about it. Post that thing on Facebook or Tweet the hell out of it. On the flipside... even if you absolutely hate a flick, just don't be a dick about it in the Talkbacks. Saturday Shorts is a film friendly column that thrives on everyone being cool and having a good time. I'm ready to have some fun - how about you? Let's rock this.

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

I AM VENGEANCE

TRT: 9:31

Writer/Driector Wayne Lin has created a film that defies the norm. He's managed to show us nine minutes of almost nothing. I mean that literally - the film's great and has no real discernable set/walls/ceiling, it's just packed with two very interesting leads that will have your eyes glued to the screen.

SILVER STILETTO

TRT: 15:49

Up next we've got a solid film from Luke Mayze. "Two men are found dead in a dumpster outside of well known gay bar, The Rat and Handbag. One has a stiletto pierced through his eye and their wounds suggest a trained killer. Detective Alexis Morgan has a crazy theory. Could the dishevelled Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz impersonator sitting in her interrogation room really be the murderer?"

SLEEP FIGHTER

TRT: 1:30

This next one is a fun film that gets right to the point. Bjorn Tobiasson made this with no money and in 50 hours. Kudos, Bjorn! "There’s nothing like a day at the beach. Sun, sea and sleeping people with their wallets sticking out their pockets. Remy isn’t one to turn down an easy mark but what if the mark isn’t as easy as they appear? This man is not sleeping peacefully. This man is THE SLEEP FIGHTER!"

FRAME OF MIND

TRT: 14:21

Bam! Future technology meets fun storytelling and strong visuals in our next short from Brett Cramer."In the near future, a team of investigators uses cutting-edge technology to explore a witness’s repressed memories in order to catch a serial killer."

TRIM

TRT: 13:57

Barbershops. Cutting hair is genuinely an artform as much as it is a skill and boy does this doc show it. This slick doc from John Vanderpuije tosses you into the shoes of a few barbers. Interesting stuff. Great perspectives from interesting characters.

And that's it for this week ladies and gents. I'll see you all in 7 days with a few more interesting films I think you should check out! In the meantime, be sure to have a nice Thanksgiving and eat youreslf silly, knowing damn well you can lock yourself in your warm house and hit up all sorts of great shorts while all the crazies run out on Black Friday to buy stuff they don't need!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
