SAN DIEGO COMIC CON: Jeff Smith Talks About The Animated BONE Film! Plus How To Find Me At The Con!

Hey folks, Harry here. Just got back from my first endrun at the San Diego Comic Con... Now before I get into this whole Jeff Smith / Bone feature film news... I want to let you folks know... I will be all over the convention... YOU CAN NOT MISS ME! I am gigantically fat.... More Red Hair than you can imagine existing on a human being... AND... My eyes will be as large as saucers and I'll be carrying a big bag of shit that I've been buying. Muhahahaha... Stuff Stuff Stuff... ALSO... I have three panels I'm doing at the convention.... One Thursday, Friday and Saturday... I'm presenting some awards at the EISNER AWARDS as well. I also have a table... inexplicably placed in ARTIST'S ROW.... hmmmmm.... and me, Father Geek and Quint will be doing time there... and I believe there is a possibility of Moriarty attending as well... though I don't know what day he will be getting there.
All right... now for JEFF SMITH and BONE!
Well, the Quint and I were waddling along... having passed the MILE HIGH MILLIONS and the WISHMASTER booth... Passing the ANIME DVD WHOLESALERS and headed towards ANIMATION CELEBRATION... the Convention was mainly empty... Basically... this is just a time for professionals... Due to the pure insanity of me being a guest.... I get to walk amongst these folks... Suddenly I'm staring at this dude that was attempting to set up a BONE display... Tons of toys... JEALOUSY SETTING IN... I flip through books that I already own... Smiling because... they are happy memories that I like to revisit. And suddenly I remember... like 2 years ago... announcing on the site that Jeff Smith was set to direct a BONE film as part of Nickelodeon Animation... I believe for Paramount. Seeing how this fella has a booth dedicated to BONE... I ask, "Um, so have you heard what is going on with the BONE movie?"
This dude turns around and I see his badge.... JEFF SMITH... hmmm, I bet Jeff Smith would know about this. He then says that they've completed the script, that they have tons and tons of pre-production art... That two weeks ago they did their pitch to PARAMOUNT, and now... well it's in the fates... it hangs in the balance... to be made or not to be made... A suit somewhere has the chance to bring to life BONE one of the most magical universes ever brought forth in the comic medium. Beloved by older comic readers as well as younger ones... A world with the richness and love of the Carl Barks universe. One that I'm very much in love with...
Suddenly, I decided to say... "Well best of luck with it" to which Jeff thanked me... Noticed my name tag and did a bit of a geek out. Jeff can live either way... if he makes the movie... brings his world to a larger more expansive audience... great... he can do that. BUT the fact of the matter is that he's happy with the universe he's created. He wants to make a movie, but doesn't HAVE to. And that's the sign of a trully mature artist. He is at one with his creation, happy that it has life and that it is loved. If Paramount doesn't greenlight... well, their option will expire soon.. and Jeff will take it elsewhere... All I can say is... whichever studio makes this BONE film... will not only be producing an Animated film... they'll be bringing a lyrical beautiful addictful universe to life. I can't wait... and there are alot of people like me too...
