Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's extra special lineup of short horror films that will have you sleeping with the lights on (or at the very least are fun to watch). With Halloween creeping up on us, how can I not jump on the scary bandwagon? It's that perfect time of year where the leaves are turning orange/brown, the weather's getting cooler, and you can trust complete strangers to give your children candy. I think I've tossed together a lovely selection that can compete with even the sweetest sugar rush, fun short after fun short, and the best part: they were all created and submitted by AICN readers like you and me. I think I say it every Saturday, but holy hell are there a lot of talented folks out there cranking out unique projects. It's hard to catch them all, but if you walk away from this week enjoying a film you wouldn't have seen otherwise, well that's the sweetest treat I could ask for. Be sure to watch these at night, possibly while prepping that kickass costume of yours. As always - full screen each and every one!

REDRUM: THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY OF THE SHINING

With a title like that, it's pretty obvious you know what you're in for. Writer-director Joe Lovero, along with original music from Jon Hugo Ungar, rocks it with this eleven and a half minute piece that doesn't fall flat. They hit every note and key with a golden baton and an obviously talented production designer/team who recreated the environment from the film to a T. This is a musical short film derived from the stage play “REDRUM: The Unauthorized Musical Parody of The Shining” written and directed by me (screenwriter/director Joe Lovero). We created this as a teaser to bring awareness to the stage show of REDRUM with book and lyrics by myself and original music composed by Jon Hugo Ungar. The idea originated over four years ago when I set out to find a composer on Craigslist. Mr. Ungar, a piano pop singer/songwriter, responded to the ad and we immediately began working on the show. “[The Shining] scared the Hell out of me as a little kid, REDRUM started out as a joke to find humor in the horror and set it to song. I wanted to create one musical number and get a funny digital short out of it, but once Jon and I began working on it, it quickly turned into a really special show”. It stars three-time Tony Award nominee and four-time Drama Desk Award winner Marc Kudisch (9 to 5, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE) as Jack and parodies the scene from “The Shining” between Jack and Delbert Grady where Grady (played by Yale School of Drama Graduate Max Roll) tells Jack he should “correct” his family.

Boom! Another "M for..." created for the ABCs OF DEATH 2. (Brilliant contest: have fans spend their own money making badass shorts that might be in your film, and enjoy all the free advertising for the film all at the same time!) I'm seeing a lot of cool stuff that wouldn't have been made if it weren't for this contest, so I'm all on board with it. This quick short was directed by Steven Hugh Nelson and has a rockin' song layed over some fun/strong visuals, and a color scheme straight out of a comic book/Troma film. I really dig it. Hot damn is this next one awesome. It's short, sweet, and anything but innocent. I love this film! William Prince has managed to pack a hefty amount of awesome into just three minutes. You ladies and gents are more than aware of the ABCs OF DEATH 2 that this whole "M is for..." wraps around, so if you liked this short as much as I did and do - then show it some love and vote it up!

To end on a high note, I've got an insanely badass film to leave you with. I actually think this film might stick with you and honestly give you nightmares. This thing has it all. "“Shhh” is a tale about a young boy, who uses his imagination to overcome his monstrous bully at night. Tired of being scared, Guillermo eventually takes matters into his own hands. Inspired by the lucid dreams of director Guillermo del Toro during childhood." Co-Directors Freddy Chávez Olmos and Shervin Shoghian know their stuff and I want to see a hell of a lot more from them.
