Robert Zemeckis to adapt documentary MARWENCOL into a feature!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Out of left field comes this fairly interesting bit of news: Robert Zemeckis will be directing a feature version of the documentary Marwencol, written by Edward Scissorhands and City of Embers' Caroline Thompson.

If you haven't seen the flick, it's about a man who was put into a coma after being badly beaten who wakes up with no memory of his life. As part of his recovery he ends up building a miniature town called Marwencol where he has doll versions of his friends, family and even the youth that attacked him. His therapy becomes art as his work begins to be featured at art galleries.

It's a fascinating true life story that gives an incredibly creative filmmaker like Zemeckis the ability to play with reality and fantasy, especially when you consider the script is coming from Thompson who not only wrote Scissorhands and City of Embers, but also A Nightmare Before Christmas, The Secret Garden and The Addams Family. This kind of story is definitely within her wheelhouse, that's for sure.

Sounds like good news and that leading role is going to be Oscar bait for some A-list actor, especially with someone like Zemeckis behind the camera. What do you folks think?
