Hey folks, Harry here... Ya know... remember how in that Jackie Chan article not so long ago, Jackie said if he retired from film, he'd want to be a spy? And How I said, we could make use of Jackie Chan here at AICN? Well.... This whole A.I. thing is most definately a mission right up Jackie Chan's alley. First off, we know that John Williams has read the script... so we would have to send Jackie on a mission to the only known person who has read the script... well to John Williams' home for a secret mission (while there he could scope out for Star Wars too) and... then... Jackie could pretend to carry lumber and break into the Warner lot set of A.I. lead those cartoon security guards on a Buster Keaton-esque COPS chase... ultimately leading them all into Lorenzo's office. BUT... for now... we will have to make due with glimpsing peeks and descriptions... Enjoy...
Harry,
I usually just read your articles and don't contribute. But on July 17 I took a tour of the Warner Bros. Studio and picked up a couple of tidbits about Spielberg's AI. They aren't a whole lot, but they might interest you.
When I started the tour I asked the guide if Spielberg was on the lot filming today. He got a very serious look on his face and said, "We got a memo from Mr. Spielberg himself to not inform you about his project." He said in fact I wasn't even supposed to know he was making it there."
The tour progressed and we went to the art department. The were working on a HUGE backdrop that was made up of grays and blacks. I asked what it was going to be and the art guy brought over a picture of the finished backdrop. He told me it was going to be part of a city submerged in water for AI. The tour guide got mad and pulled the guy aside informing him about the memo, but not before I got a good look. It look a lot like downtown Manhattan, sunken in the the sea. I tried to look around more before the guide ripped us away. I caught a glimpse of what looked like a half painted ventriloquist dummy. I'm not sure if it was for AI, but it was supposed to be damaged and had all sorts of wires and gears hanging from it's damaged limbs. So I wondered, "hmmmm...possible robot."
We are gonna have trouble getting any info about this movie, because Spielberg has security so tight. We drove by all the soundstages, and he told us what was being filmed in all but one...hmmm...I wonder what was being filmed in there. there were cops and security guards standing out front checking everyones I.D. There were guys carrying huge things of lumber, who had to put them down so they could show there I.D. Now the whole enterance was covered in a huge tarp so you couldn't see inside, but right as we went by a forklift drove through. I got a quick glimpse of what was inside. It was half of a quite ordinary looking house. Other than its huge size it looked quite normal. So I guess it's not the really distant future, but a near one.
I dont know if you need to know any of this, I just thought I'd let you know.
