Harry here, Alright, um... uh, this friggin rules rules rules. Apparently, the search for a bluc collar partner for Scully is underway, and so far... there has been 4 lucky auditioneers according to E! Online's Reporting of a Hollywood Reporter story.
The four actors up for the role are... BRUCE CAMPBELL!!!!!!!!!!
ROBERT PATRICK
LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS
and Hart Bochner???
Ok... Now I don't know this Hart Bochner bloke (which probably speaks highly of him being the right choice.... BUT... those first three...
Lou Diamond Phillips was in one of my favorite X-FILES-ish flicks... one of those twilight hour films you put on when noone is around... THE FIRST POWER... However, for the show, could I really stand Lou's habit of sucking on his bottom lip and doing his cold narrow eye thing? Hmmm... Nah... I pass.
Bruce Campbell... Ok, so the fanboys and the fangirls are like making raspberry squishies over this concept. I mean... "Scully, give me some sugar baby!" It would so rule... you know it, I know it... we all know it. If the new partner is supposed to be a non-believer and yet charismatic and funny... it is not humanly possible to do better than Bruce Campbell. Just go re-watch TOOMS and imagine Bruce Campbell underneath the escalator with Tooms...
"Scully there is newspaper and goo down here, this is Home Education in the dark, I'm coming up."
Tooms busts out at Bruce
"Whoa! Back up a second partner, you're underarrest"
Tooms launches himself at Bruce snapping and biting and elongating
Bruce shoots Tooms in the forehead with his sidearm
"Well that was something wasn't it" He looks around and begins to pull the body out from under the escalator. As he has it about half out... Tooms comes back to life inexplicably. We fade out on the episode as we hear a "Ah hell"
Bruce rules. He's a god. But casting him might take the show dangerously close to further self-parody. On the otherhand... it is the exact sort of HIGH PROFILE... I AM A STAR material that Bruce needs.
And then there is Robert Patrick. This would be the perfect location from which Robert Patrick could grow out from the chorus of character actors and into the centerstage spotlight. Robert Patrick is very talented and has quite a large range as an actor, that so far hasn't even begun to be explored. In an ideal world, it'd be Patrick and Campbell and Scully. I'd love that. Whatever the case may be... hell cool for school casting choices!
