The first trailer has been released for Alex Gibney's (ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM, TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE) documentary about Lance Armstrong, THE ARMSTRONG LIE.
The project first started in 2009 as a piece about Armstrong's comeback. During filming, Armstrong stated repeatedly on camera that he has never used performance-enhancing drugs. After his doping scandal emerged in full public view, production on the project was shelved, and picked back up in 2013, as Gibney began re-examining the issue anew, and in light of Armstrong's confession to using drugs to aid his victories.
It looks to be an interesting piece, especially considering the angle that Gibney seems to be using in light of the doping alligations and confession. They caused him to reassess and take an entirely new approach to the subject, and I am interesting to see how the old and new footage are used together to tell a very different story from what was initially planned.
THE ARMSTRONG LIE will open in limited release on October 8th.
