OK comicbook geeks... Here's the great news... Father Geek here felt it might take over 1st place after seeing it twice early in the week, but this will do...
You probably already know this, but I havent seen a post about it. X-men
made 21.4 M on its opening day, coming in 3rd all time. Only episode I (28.5M)
and lost world (21.6M) made more on opening day. With this opening its
predicted to be as much as 50-60 million for the weekend. This data was
collected from boxofficeguru.com

It seems Robogeek was writing this up just a few keystrokes behind ol' Father Geek here... He's included some additional content so I've added that part of his story to this posting...
According to preliminary studio estimates released earlier today, X-MEN
pulled in an astonishing $21.38 million yesterday (Friday), which would make
it the third highest opening day of any film ever, behind "Star Wars:
Episode I - The Phantom Menace" ($28.5 million) -- and barely behind "The
Lost World: Jurassic Park" ($21.6).
To put that in more recent perspective, last week's opening weekend haul
of $42.35 million by "Scary Movie" was kicked off by an opening Friday gross
of just over $16 million. Therefore it's a pretty safe bet that X-MEN will
see an opening weekend gross in excess of $50 million.
Allow me to congratulate to Bryan Singer and all involved -- including
the fans, who will no doubt be partying hard next week at the San Diego
ComicCon (wish I could be there), as we not only dodged a bullet this
weekend, but were handed a staggering victory that will not go unnoticed by
the industry.
Excelsior!
'Nuff said,
