Here's another of those great fan boy dream encounters with MUMMY movie making. Father Geek got this report from the same spy who spilled the beans in two previous MUMMY 2 stories this week. Just franic fun fan stuff, sneaking a peek at filming and then telling all your friends what you saw. Only because of the Net this geek can tell the whole wide world instead. And I for one am glad guys like him are out there using their eyes and ears and typing skills for all of us who couldn't be on the streets of London this last week to see it for ourselves ...
Filming has finished at University College, after 5 night shoots, and is moving down the road to Bedford Square located between Gower Street and Tottenham Court Road for any of you in London who fancy spending Sunday on a film set.
Again, nothing really exciting to report, but Fraser was filmed the other night frantically trying to force open the boot of one of the classic cars outside the 'museum'. Empire Online UK (can't remember the web address) has 4 photos taken by one of their guys if you fancy a peak at the posters, British Museum sign, cars and the bus which have been described earlier.
Last night was the final night here at UCL and rather impressive to say the least. No principals on set, just their doubles, but again swiping the magic card of opportunism I bunked down next to a couple of workmen type people who were employed to replace the tyres on one of the cards which were destined to explode about 0430 this morning. Several fire trucks and large water storage units were set up with cranes which doused the central area of the quad with lashings of water and repeatedly filmed one of the cars legging it into college and turning 360degrees in the pouring rain.
The scenes scheduled for early morning which I missed on account of not wanting to fail my MSc anytime soon were off several slim guys in sort of alien suits (bit like Mossman from He Man, you must remember him Harry, 'I have the power' and all that stuff). Anyways they run out of the museum and leap onto the car, which then falls to pieces and tyres explode etc. Having said that, the final scene will probably be much different with the Mummys replaced with CGI and the car being destroyed in a much more exciting manner than just the wheels falling off.
Must admit, I haven't seen the first one, but as a result of the past couple of days I'll be awaiting expectedly the sequel in May 2001.
Might get to see the shoot in Bedford Square on Sunday but if not, then I'll sign off until I wander aimlessly on to another film set to gawp.
Keep up the good work Harry
Adios
