Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's wave of wildly fun short flicks from some fine filmmakers. This week we've got drama, action, comedy, and it's all here, free for you and me to enjoy on this lovely Saturday afternoon (or whatever day/time you're reading this). I'm still coming off the high of Fantastic Fest, where I caught some rather enjoyable shorts, met some cool folks, and just had a blast over all. I'd like to think we have a rather fantastic selection today, as each film somehow involves a bit of fantasy, a lovely distraction from the confines of reality. So whatever you are in the mood for, here's hoping you'll click on something you dig. Let's get to watching!

THE TROLL

And first up we have an online premiere for a film I can't seem to get enough of. There's something very endearing about the idea of trolls... There's an angry loneliness that seems tied to them (at least from what I know of them) and I'll be damned if this short doesn't capture that. Director Max Carlson of Odd Box Films brings us an update on an old story that's sure to keep your attention. "A mythical Troll, who lives underneath a bridge in downtown Los Angeles, falls in love with a woman who jumps off its ledge."

Jim O'Heir makes yet another appearane on SATURDAY SHORTS in this new film, a parody of Pixar/Disney execs and a pitch for yet another talking vehicles film. Director Justin Dec perfectly transformed a one punch joke into six minutes of fun, with an excellent cast. "Hot off the success of "Cars" and "Planes", a room full of executives dreams up the next big thing... "Boats"! But is it the story they care about or is it $omething el$$$e...?" And if you're particularly fond of the film's main song, be sure to hit up iTunes and nab it!
LUCY

Up next is longer than I typically like my shorts, but damnit if it isn't worth it. Director Bret Zausmer has crafted a bizarre, yet enthralling film that explores the effects war can have on a person's psyche. Zausmer classifies this as "War Romance" and I 100% agree with that description. The film's based on a deleted scene Zausmer saw while exploring bonus features on Nick Bicanic's SHADOW COMPANY dvd. "Travis is a private-sector mercenary stationed in a remote area of Afghanistan. When he flies his inflatable wife, Lucy, in town to visit, his team is unsure what to do. Based on a true story."

Here we have Jow Warner's take on a post apocalyptic future where scavenging is a way of life. ""Until The End" is an intimate character study against the grand concept of the apocalypse. This was a zero budget student film shot over two days in Centrailia, Pennsylvania."

To wrap this week up, I've got an added bit of fun. Nope, this wasn't a video submitted to SS, but one that's landed on my lap. It's too damn fun not to share with all of you ladies and gents. It's a music video that played at a wedding... It's fantastic. "At his wedding we pleaded for our brother not to leave us, in the only way we knew how to say it; through the the medium of 80s music and video. We thought we'd done ok, but he left us anyway." Baddy Paris and Rufus Starlight have created something rather amazing and I blame them very much for being the only music I can think of for the last few days. Be sure to hit up their site!
