We have the first trailer for Bennett Miller's FOXCATCHER and news on the film being delayed!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

First, we have a new trailer for Bennett Miller’s upcoming drama, FOXCATCHER:

Now comes news today (or late last night) that Sony is actually deciding to push FOXCATCHER to next year. No specific release date has been given but apparently Miller has been rushing to get the film finished ahead of its originally planned December 20th release. Pushing the film back gives him some breathing room, not to mention this award season looks to be as crowded and busy as any other in recent memory. Here is Sony's brief statement announcing the move:

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that the release of ‘Foxcatcher' is being moved into 2014.  SPC supports the decision of the filmmakers to allow for more time to finish the film,

I still expect this film to be an awards contender, especially with the glimpses of Steve Carell’s performance we have seen so far, so I am not of the belief that this delay has anything to do with the film’s quality. The true story it is based on is an incredible one and the talent that has attached themselves to this project almost guarantees this will be a success. With GRAVITY, TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE and AMERICAN HUSTLE among others generating a ton of early buzz, it is going to be a really competitive season and will take an extraordinary effort to not get lost amongst the other films. Expect more shuffling to continue as the studios really begin to jockey for position.

FOXCATCHER, a psychological drama directed by Academy Award® nominee Bennett Miller (MONEYBALL) and starring Golden Globe® winner Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Academy Award®nominee Mark Ruffalo, Academy Award® winner Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller, will have its World Premiere on Friday, November 8 as the Opening Weekend Gala. The film was written by E. Max Frye and Academy Award® nominee Dan Futterman. FOXCATCHER tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins “coaching” a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral. Based on actual events, FOXCATCHER is a gripping and profoundly American story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.
