Hey, all. "Moriarty" here. Looks like much credit is due the team at Corona's Coming Attractions. The Jimmy Smits rumor they originally ran has panned out with an official confirmation today on StarWars.com. The surprise of the whole thing is the role that Smits has been announced as playing. This would fall under the header of spoilers if you're an absolute stone cold purist, but if that's the case, what the hell are you doing clicking on casting announcement stories? Anyway...
Jimmy Smits is Bail Organa. Well, then... this is the first time we've heard his name connected to the role, and it's a surprising announcement if you take into account all the rumors that the romantic triangle in this film will be Organa, Skywalker, and Amidala. The age difference is shocking, but it would make sense if it was an arranged marriage for political reasons, which it very well could be. Anyway... provocative announcement to say the least. Combine this with the recent confirmation of Christopher Lee as "a charismatic separatist," and Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and you've got a rapidly forming picture of the the canvass Lucas will be offering up this time around. So far, I like it a lot. Let's see what happens now with Walken and Byrne, the last two major names that keep coming up in rumors.
