A Mid-East Report On THE DANCER UPSTAIRS Shooting In South America

Well, it's Father Geek again with a story that found its way to you from the jungles of South America, by way of the deserts of the Middle East, by way of the rolling hill country of central Texas. Boy, this shrinking world thing appears to be speeding up. Any way a bit on this flick appeared in Latin-AICN the other day, reported by Coffin Joe down in Brazil, but here's many more details from our man on the ground in the cradle of civilization...

Dear Harry and co...

Howdy and may God bless this site!!!

So it's me again, "THE EVIL SPY FROM THE MIDDLE EAST". It was a pleasure to see all these people debate on "The Exorcist VS Censor issues in the Middle East"...even though it turned out to be a political one.

So let me put on the "True Romance" CD for inspiration and let me get started...

So I previously read something about a movie with John MAlkovich which turned out to be "The Dancer Upstairs". I'm surprised you guys talked about it. Hispanic people out there...THANK YOU!!! Lately, I read an interview with John Malkovich on News Weekly and they were asking him wether the movie is going to be political or just a plain thriller...well it's both. I still haven't read the script but I know the movie started shooting in mid May in Perú. What's it about? PAtience my friends...Patience is a virtue:

"Perú, in the mid - 1980s is collapsing under the onslaught of a highly organised terrorist movement, and a man named Rejas finds himself unexpectedly at the center of the action. Charged with the near impossible task of identifying and capturing the Mysterious leader Ezequiel, Rejas is hampered by the corruption of his superiors and frighteningly complacent public. As daily bombings strike at the government's foundations, a surreal cocktail of martial law, savage violence and end-of-the world gaiety grips the nation. Under severe pressure, and perhaps intoxicated himself, he falls for his daughter's devastatingly beautiful ballet teacher, thus stumbling into a quiet warehouse on the capital's outskirts - and the very heart of the terrorist organisation."

DANCER UPSTAIRS is based on the story of the shining path, the terrorist movement responsible for taking Perú to the brink. It will be John Malkovich's directorial debut...as you all already know.

Dancer Upstairs is distributed by a Spanish indy company called "Lola Films". About a US distributor...nothing yet...

We all know Malkovich is one of the great movie Icons of this century. But I have one question to ask? Will this movie interest the American public? I mean, I'm sure it will have a limited release but...I know in Europe MAlkovich is adored and a movie like this has a great potential of succeding but the US... I guess it leaves me with one hell of a question mark!!!

Sincerely,

Gianluca C.
