Starting out this week’s news bits is an exclusive clip from THE COLONY starring Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Zegers. The film is directed by Jeff Renfroe (director of the upcoming documentary I AM STEVE MCQUEEN). THE COLONY is described as Laurence Fishburne , Bill Paxton and Kevin Zegers, headline an all-star cast in this savage and unrelenting thriller about mankind's greatest enemy: himself. As an endless winter engulfs Earth, humans struggle to survive in remote underground outposts. When Colony 7 receives a distress call from a nearby settlement, Sam (Zegers) and Briggs (Fishburne) race through the snow on a dangerous rescue mission. What they find at the desolate base could mean mankind’s salvation—or its total annihilation.The film is available now on Video on Demand and will be in theaters September 20th! Here’s the clip!

That Duke Boy’s Makin’ a Horror Movie Called SMOTHERED!
John Schneider (best known be me as Bo Duke of the DUKES OF HAZZARD, but I guess these days he’s best known as Pa Kent from SMALLVILLE) wrote himself a horror movie and is now starting up his own production company to put the whole thing together. SMOTHERED has an impressive cast made up of horror movie vets; Kane Hodder (JASON X), Bill Moseley (DEVIL’S REJECTS), Brea Grant (HALLOWEEN), R.A. Mahailoff (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3), Don Shanks (HALLOWEEN 5), Malcolm Danadre (CHRISTINE), & Amy Brassette (GHOST SHARK) and has an interesting twist on your usual serial killer yarn. Instead of a guy in a mask killing a bunch of girls, SMOTHERED features a bunch of guys being stalked and slaughtered by a beautiful girl.I’m in.

Support Tom Savini’s DEATH ISLAND!
Horror effects icon Tom Savini is helming a new zombie film and you can help him put it all together. He’s put together an IndieGoGo page for his new film DEATH ISLAND, a film described as having some of the most unique and horrifying zombie kills ever filmed as well as fast paced and thrilling adventure with voodoo priests and the undead. I have to admit, despite the glut of zombie films out there right now, the thought of another Tom Savini zombie opus does sound pretty great.Here’s the pitch video from Tom himself!
Quake In Fear…Cronenberg’s SHIVERS To Be Remade!
The Cronenberg classic SHIVERS also known as THEY CAME FROM WITHIN is the next of the seemingly endless run of tamed down remakes we seem to be getting on a monthly basis. There’s something grimy and sleazy that I love about Cronenberg’s original that I sincerely doubt will be able to be recaptured in a modern version. Still, they seem to have brought on some talent to this one as the new SHIVERS will be directed by award-winning Danish filmmaker Rie Rasmussen (HUMAN ZOO) from a screenplay written by Ian Driscoll (who wrote SMASH CUT, which had decent its moments). In SHIVERS; a genetically-engineered strain of parasites that turn people into violent, compulsive sex-addicts is released into a self-contained luxury apartment complex. The resident doctor attempts to find a cure before the infected, nymphomaniac inhabitants spread their legs – and the parasites. The new Shivers will be updated for today’s social and sexual realities. In a post-HIV world, where people interact through screens rather than skin, the parasite breaks down those digital barriers. This is a world that is both more liberated than that of 1975, and more fearful and uptight. Fingers crossed for this one to be one of the remakes more along the lines of MANIAC than WHEN A STRANGER CALLS and that the face on the guy in the pic on the right is not the one we all have after seeing the remake.
There will be BLOOD in this Exclusive Clip!
Though I don’t know if it qualifies as a horror film, BLOOD does have an amazing cast with Paul Bettany (A BEAUTIFUL MIND), Mark Strong (LOW WINTER SUN), Stephen Graham (Al Capone on BOARDWALK EMPIRE) and Brian Cox (ALIEN…I mean, THE BOURNE IDENTIY). The film is available DVD, Blu-rayTM and Digital Download on this week and is described as; telling the story of the Fairburn brothers (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham), detectives who will do whatever it takes to catch the killer of a shocking murder in a small town, while trying to live-up to the reputation of their tough-as-nails ex-police chief father (Brian Cox). But when a suspect's interrogation spins violently out of control, the brothers must deal with the consequences…and the mounting suspicions of a colleague (Mark Strong) seeking the truth. I’m going to be covering BLOODLINE very soon on AICN HORROR, but before the film is to be released to the masses on September 27th in theaters, they have produced one last trailer for the film.
