Hey Yo, Draven here.
Empire is reporting that Richard Gere’s next film is going to be the indie, FRANNY. The film will be the feature debut for director Andrew Renzi, who has only directed a couple of short films up to this point. Gere is set to play the lead role in the film as, “a hedonistic philanthropist who ingratiates himself into the lives of a newlywed couple in order to recreate the life he once had".
Richard Gere really rejuvenated his career with the recent VOD success, ARBITRAGE, which grossed about $12 million just in VOD rentals. Treehouse Pictures was the production company behind ARBITRAGE and because of the overwhelming success of that film, they jumped right in to get behind FRANNY, which is going to be shooting next month.
I haven’t seen ARBITRAGE yet, but it got a lot of critical acclaim and Gere apparently gave a terrific performance so I am definitely looking forward to checking it out along with FRANNY. My question is what will the tone be like? That plot synopsis could go several ways, which makes it all the more interesting. (Also, to anyone who has not seen the criminally underrated 2006 film, THE HOAX, please do so soon.)
FRANNY will probably follow the same release model as ARBITRAGE so expect to see it VOD and in theaters sometime in 2014.
