This Week's Saturday Shorts: Creepiness galore!

*I just caught wind that SATURDAY SHORTS veteran Rob Mclellan's short, ABE, was picked up by MGM and he's been hired to write and direct a feature version. I'm incredibly happy for the guy and wish him nothing but good vibes as he moves forward with the film! (source: Rob himself, but hey here's Deadline's article and First Showing's for kicks.)

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's picks. This week we find ourselves with a handful of freaky tales, scary or creepy films that might have you leaving the light on at night (Well, you catch my drift). There's one exception to the "horror/thriller/suspense" vibe here and it's an animated film that I dug so much - I just wanted to share it as soon as possible (although it's got an interesting amount of oddness to it that might fit with the rest.) And as an extra bonus, we've got a trailer for a damn fine film that's currently hopping around the different festivals: GHOST TRAIN. So if you're in the mood for some genre fun, then you've come to the right place.

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

Let's start this week off on an interesting foot. Here's Steve Baker's fun animation. "His name is Desmondo Ray. He is aged 33 & 3/4's, and lives with his widowed father... This is his video dating tape."

Bam! Our first bit of true freakiness for the week. From Brandon Christensen of Creepy Pasta comes this tiny tale of eeriness. If you like what you see, then be sure to hit up Brandon's Facebook page for more infor on the guy.

Now here's a bizarre one, a guy being interviewed for a job (though... not quite). From Adam Brown we get this odd thriller that is full of interesting visuals.

Up next is a special piece from Eric Boissonneault of Ontario, CA. " It's about a young girl who was murdered and whose body remains undiscovered in a vast, Northern Ontario forrest. Her spirit is restless and unable to move on until, by happenstance, three young boys stumble upon her body."

From the gang over at Pictures & Noise we get this one minute dip into the world of an interesting person. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I like about this film. I absolutely do. It's a tiny slice of life, just a casual encounter with a strange figure as he's on his way somewhere. I certainly do dig it and just want to see more of that world. If you like what you see, go hit up their site!

Last week I screened a film by Lee Cronin called THROUGH THE NIGHT. This week we've got a quick trailer for his most recent film. GHOST TRAIN. While I typically don't do trailers for short films, this one just seemed too cool not to share. It's making its rounds in the fetival circuit, but I'll be sure to nab it the second it hits online.

Hizzah! That's it for this week ladies and gents. Be sure to check in next week for some more shorts you might not see otherwise, but hey if you feel like checkign out more shorts, click any of the links below:

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at ""

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capactiy, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)

- Mike McCutchen
