This international trailer for THE FAMILY (a.k.a. MALAVITA) gives us a different look at the film!

Howdy do, everyone, Papa Vinyard here.

We get a French-subtitltled look at the Luc Besson-directed flick, THE FAMILY (titled MALAVITA overseas, because apparently they can muster interest for a movie without a generic, boring title), and it has a decidedly different tone from the last trailer. Where that one presented the film as an almost ANALYZE THIS/WHOLE NINE YARDS level comedy, this one seems to be edging into darker territory. It's still funny, but the humor's presented in a slightly more sinister, dare-I-say "cool" way. This would seem to me to be closer to the tone of the actual film. Not a whiz-bang, fast-moving laugh-fest, but rather a fun, exciting flick where the stakes are high and the violence actually has an impact. The music has a sort of UNLEASHED/DANNY THE DOG vibe that feels more Luc Besson-y than the Rolling Stones/Muse soundtrack that we got in the domestic trailer. This would never fly here; it's almost an art-house trailer compared to anything that would be expected to get an American audience riled up for a movie, even if it has DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Tommy Lee freakin' Jones in it.

And I love that it's only a minute-14 and barely shows us anything. That's always a winning factor for a trailer.

Thanks to Movieweb.com for the embed. THE FAMILY comes together on September 13th.
