Disney has finally found their directors for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 and they are Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg according to Deadline. The Oscar nominated duo are best known for directing last year’s Best Foreign Language-Oscar nominated film, KON-TIKI. I haven’t seen KON-TIKI yet (or PIRATES 4) but I have heard great things about it and specifically the direction, so this seems like an inspired choice. Johnny Depp, Jerry Bruckheimer, and anyone else that matters, have signed off on this choice and negotiations are underway. The pre-production for these films is always massive and will start soon for a shoot that is planned for the end of this year.
What do you guys think of this choice? Does anybody really care for this franchise anymore?
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 is scheduled for release July 10, 2015.
