Here is William Wallace's report from the Highlands. It details many projects of the Scots, just to show that we are interested in more than just films from the good ol U.S. of A. I really am interested in overseas projects. If you know of any, let me know...
I thought I'd write and let you know about a few films from Scotland which will be at a cinema near you soon.
Alien Love Triangle - A science fiction sex comedy from the "Trainspotting" team and "Local Hero" director Bill Forsyth. A film of three parts - the first from Hodge/MacDonald and Boyle, the second from Forsyth and the third a collaboration between both teams. Casting rumours suggest Kenneth Branagh has signed on for the role of a man who discovers his wife is actually an alien, and male. Courtney Cox may play the alien and Heather Graham her/his real extraterrestrial mate.
The Water Horse - Jim Henson's Creature Workshop will provide the titular beastie in the story of two children who find a mythical sea creature on the west coast of Scotland in 1939. "The Full Monty" writer, and Oscar nominee, Simon Beaufoy provides the script.
Mary Stuart - Meryl Streep and Glenn Close are producing this adaptation of Friedrich Schiller's stage play. Streep will play Mary Queen of Scots and Close her cousin, Elizabeth I of England. Richard Eyre is set to direct the film when it goes into production later this year.
World of Moss - The highly anticipated reunion between "Chariots of Fire" director and producer, Hugh Hudson and David Putnam, tells the story of a Scottish boy's childhood with his eccentric family. An international cast includes Irene Jacob, Colin Firth, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Rosemary Harris, Malcolm McDowell, Tcheky Karyo and "Trainspotting" sensation Kelly Macdonald.
Women Talking Dirty - Kelly Macdonald again, this time in an Edinburgh set comedy co-starring Daniella Nardini, directed by Sallie Aprahamian and the first film from Elton John's new production company Rocket Pictures.
Younger Than Springtime - "Goldeneye" and "Circle of Friends" star Alan Cumming will direct and play the lead in the true story of the thirty something man who successfully disguised himself as a teenage schoolboy.
Untitled Sean Connery Project - Scotland's favourite son has commissioned a script about the Lockerbie Disaster - when a bombed US plane crashed into a small Scottish village. Connery would play the lead role of the policeman investigating the tragedy.
HARRY HERE, I heard the above Connery project was being helmed by Replacement Killers director Antoine Fuqua. Just to let you know what I heard.
