Who is set to acquire the troubled indie Western, JANE GOT A GUN!?!

Hey Yo! Draven here.

Deadline is reporting that Relativity and The Weinstein Company are “in advance negotiations” to both acquire and distribute the very troubled Western, JANE GOT A GUN. They also report that the deal is for wide release, which is great news for a movie that seemed like it couldn’t catch a break for a while.

Gavin O’Connor (WARRIOR, MIRACLE) is now directing the film that will star Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, and Ewan McGregor with a script by Brian Duffield. There have been so many problems with this film, from production being pushed back several times, original director Lynne Ramsay not showing up on the first day of filming, to losing Jude Law, Michael Fassbender and Bradley Cooper.

I have heard lots of really good things about this script (and look at the talent it has attracted). I also really like O’Connor as a filmmaker, and the footage they were able to show at Cannes apparently started a bidding war so I have high hopes for JANE. I expect that all of this behind the scenes turmoil will end up being worth it.

"After her outlaw husband (Noah Emmerich) returns home shot with eight bullets and barely alive, Jane (Portman) reluctantly reaches out to an ex-lover (Edgerton) who she hasn't seen in over ten years to help her defend her farm when the time comes that her husband's gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job."
