Sister Satan takes a look at Skip Woods' IN DEFENSE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY

Hey folks, Harry here. And man... Ol Sister Satan is just getting better and better. In addition to her review of the Skip Woods original script, IN DEFENSE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY, she decided to do a little bit of research to find out what else has been filling Skip's coffers since his rather wonderfully sick and cultish THURSDAY. While I don't know about SWORDFISH (ya know... there's just something about bringing the director of GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS and the star of BATTLEFIELD EARTH together that fills me with dread), a Skip Woods directed and written LOGAN'S RUN... well, it just boggles the mind. I mean... the debauchery and violence in the first one was handled with kids' gloves... but Skip... well, subtle wasn't my key perception of him based upon THURSDAY... hehehehe.... HOWEVER, this script sounds like the Skip Woods we all adore... read what the nearly bursting one had to say... and give her more feedback on how she can further please ya!

Hello everyone, Sister Satan here with yet another script review, this time it is "In Defense of Sleeping Beauty" written by Skip Woods the Writer,Director, and Producer of "THURSDAY" (currently on video & really worth checking out) he is currently writing on "Swordfish" which is in pre-production as we speak with director Dominic Sena. Also Skip is the director and writer of the Joel Silver produced LOGAN'S RUN remake which has yet to have a draft cross my table. Seeing that this draft of I.D.O.S.B. I read was neither numbered or dated I have no idea what is going on with In Defense of Sleeping Beauty, except the contents of the 140 page script...

The entire film is to be shot with anamorphic lenses, and is cut much like THURSDAY... you know pieces of the movie kinda mixed up together and until the ending you are having to really keep yours eyes open for fear of missing that one important part that hooks everything together and makes sense of it all...

This is a kinda odd little film, you know how fairy-tales really were written, containing Hate, Naivety, Narcissism, Greed, Violence, Romance, Gore, and Despair...well this is a modern day fairy-tale which draws a lot of parallels with some of the most loved ones in our history...this script contains so much violence, drug abuse and sex that some of you will probably say, "damn sister satan what are you on saying this is like a fairy tale, you need help" well I am saving my butt now by saying this is not a Disney fairy-tale, and it has no magic or little fairies but-it has at the same time the same true messages of those tales...struggling people, fate, and most of all hope...

Here’s an introduction to our two main characters---

Kate-she is our Sleeping Beauty in the film, a Harvard law student faced with a nervous breakdown and suicidal, she writes out a list of all the things she has thought of doing but was to afraid to; drugs, anal sex, robbery, a tattoo, yadda yadda yadda. She vows that when her list has been completed she will open her wrists and die. And with the help of her "friends" she is completing this list very rapidly, and while doing all these things she is finding that she likes them, and this is scaring her, she is realizing that truly beneath it all she is not a "good person" and her hope is dripping away.

Finn-our prince, he is a true believer in fate and also the most wanted armed robber and killer in all of California, the first time he sees Kate he is attracted to her beauty as well as her situation and believes that fate has brought her to him, he is going towards retirement in the criminal field and its just days away when he sees her, and when they first meet it does not go over well, he then decides to find out more about her...and try to prevent her destruction.

Our Evil Stepmother Badguy Thingie- Well, here’s who i think it is, everyone...everyone in this film has demons whether they be internal or external, our prince charming is cutting peoples fingers off, our sleeping beauty is beating people unconscious, her "friends" are supplying drugs to each other, slowly killing themselves and her, Beauty’s mother is the definition of vain...and so on...you get my drift.

Overall this is about surviving in a world of basically no hope, and fighting those demons we all have whether they are others or yourself. This script contains very Very cool dialogue which makes the characters supercool, throughout the script there are extreme situations that come up that will have you on the edge of your seat, also there are some pretty funny parts too...I liked this script a lot. However, I know I will enjoy seeing the flick much more, because while reading this I was interrupted quite a few times being kept away from it for hours at a time. This really makes it hard to take in the entire thing, especially when it is cut in the super mixed up pulp fiction style (aka Non-Linear). I think most of the readers of AICN would like this film. It has a real coolness to it, however those of you who do not like violence, real drug abuse and unfeeling nonloving sex scenes should probably stay away (but people there is more to this film than just those three elements) but overall it is up to you guys...

Ok, well you guys that is it on this one, check out "THURSDAY" if ya wanna get a feel for this flick, it is really worth it, in my lil' opinion. Talk to you guys later, I got a lot more reviews coming up so I'm gonna crawl back into the safe darkness of my cave...
