Don't Get Your Hopes Up For DREDD 2, Says Producer Adi Shankar!!

The Kidd here...

Those of you who managed to catch DREDD 3D in theatres last September realized very quickly how strong of an action movie it really was. Those of you who have now been able to catch up with the film in its home release have learned all about your mistake of not seeing it sooner, and those of you who still haven't seen it... well, I'm not really sure what to do with you at this point. However, even with a good showing in Blu-ray and DVD sales, the lack of support at the box office may have been enough to seriously wound any shot of DREDD 2 coming to fruition.

Producer Adi Shankar basically said as much just the other day on Reddit, where he answered questions as part of an IAmA. While he'll never say never, "probably not" is not a good indication of a sequel happening.

When asked point blank if DREDD would have a sequel, his response was, "Probably not. But I am working on a Dredd short in the vein of #DirtyLaundry ... you're actually the first person to know about this ..."

For those of you who don't know what #DirtyLaundry is, it's essentially a PUNISHER fan film made starring the original Punisher himself Thomas Jane. It was only about 10 minutes long, and much better than the two PUNISHER feature films we actually got. If this is the direction we get of a DREDD sequel, hardcore shorts with the potential appearance of Dark Judges, then so be it. Who knows? Maybe if there's enough interest in a short, that might propel some more activity forward on a legitimate full-length feature film follow-up.

Here's #DirtyLaundry in case you missed it, so you have some idea of what Shankar is talking about...
