Hey folks, Harry here with a drop from the Average Joe about THE TIME MACHINE! First off, I would like to officially kick off the campaign to recruit this newly mastered print of THE TIME MACHINE to screen at the PARAMOUNT THEATER here in Austin, Texas as soon as humanly possible. Next I would like to formally begin the campaign for someone to begin to make and sell TIME MACHINES based on the George Pal Time Machine that are the size of the little one that took the cigar back in time, that had that little umbrella thingee spin around and the three lights light up and make that TIME MACHINE SOUND! And to then retail this amazing toy for something around $30 to $75. I would like to applaud the news that we will soon be getting a kickass DVD SPECIAL PRESENTATION of THE TIME MACHINE... and lastly I would like to campaign that Russell Crowe be the Time Traveler in the new DREAMWORKS version. I am done, here's the scoop....
Hey Harry,
I just got back from the Orpheum Theater in LA, where they showed George Pal's, "The Time Machine." The beautiful Jeri Ryan hosted the event. The guest speakers where Alan Young (Filby), Arnold Leibovit (executive producer of the new remake) and sci-fi historian and collector Forrest J. Ackerman. For all Trekkies out there, George Takei made a quick appearance as well.
The restored print of the film was very clear and the sound was just as good. Although the movie is obviously dated, it was great to see it projected on the big screen for the first time. I loved this film when I was a kid. I've grown addicted to anything time travel because of it.
I guess the big news is that Arnold Leibovit announced that Dream Works and Warner Brothers are going ahead with their big remake of the film. I gathered from what he was saying is that it's going to be a big special effects bonanza. (I just hope they remember plot.) They're already in preproduction for the film. I believe they said they were in the story board stage right now and that they had a script by the guy who wrote "Gladiator." I think it was John Logan, but I could be wrong. There were three writers on "Gladiator," but I think Logan was the one he mentioned. They haven't begun to cast it yet. That's all they said about the new movie.
Later, before the film started, two more guys came out. I don't remember their names but one of them was from the company that is going to release "The Time Machine" DVD. He said that it's going to get a new digital transfer, taken from the original print, and will also have a special edition box set released at the same time consisting of all kinds of extras. He only mentioned that one of the extras may be the shooting script for the film. They were still deciding.
And that's about all the big news that was mentioned. I haven't read any details about the remake on any other sites, so this might be new news. You decide.
