'Hannibal' makes call for extras

BY DANIEL NEMAN Times-Dispatch Staff Writer

Casting calls have come and gone in Richmond for movies that are, at best, little seen. But now comes the chance to be an extra in a movie that may actually be popular.

"Hannibal," the sequel to the highly successful "The Silence of the Lambs," will be filming in town for six weeks beginning in mid-June.

Casting director Billy Dowd is looking for men, women and children of all ages, races and descriptions to play an immense variety of background characters: FBI men and women, nurses, doctors, tourists, dog walkers, bicyclists, joggers, flight attendants, photographers, golfers, waiters, car and truck drivers, gardeners, police, store owners, pedestrians and others.

A pay scale has not yet been determined, but no one gets rich as an extra. The draw, rather, is a chance at minor immortality in a movie starring Julianne Moore (as Clarice Starling, the Jodie Foster role), Anthony Hopkins (as Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter), Gary Oldman, Ray Liotta and Giancarlo Giannini.

Applications will be accepted June 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The Shops at Willow Lawn. Those interested should bring a clear photograph of themselves; snapshots, Polaroids and similar pictures will be accepted. The photos will not be returned.

GOOD LUCK!!!
