SHADOW AND BONE Adaptation Musters Up A Writer!!

The Kidd here...

Young adult novels seem to be all the rage these days, as the studios are picking up properties left and right to adapt in the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle once again with something that might turn into the next TWILIGHT or THE HUNGER GAMES.

DreamWorks is entering into the fray with SHADOW AND BONE, Leigh Bardugo's fantasy novel that's the first leg of a planned trilogy, about a young woman who has an undiscovered power that may be the key to battling back against creatures attacking her world who feast on human flesh. She'll have to harness such a power after being trained by her country's magical elite. Hmmm... where have I heard some of these elements before??

Christopher Kyle, writer of K-19: THE WIDOWMAKER and ALEXANDER, has landed the gig of adaptating the novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That's hardly a resume that inspires confidence, but who knows? There must be something DreamWorks sees in this guy that leads them to believe he can handle the task at hand capably and in doing justice to the source material. The novel did debut on the New York Times' best-seller list, and, at one point in time had the distinction of being the Book of the Month on Amazon in both children and adult categories, so the crossover audience is there for this one.
