Here's The Trailer For Science Vs. Religion Documentary THE UNBELIEVERS!

Nordling here.

I'm not strictly an atheist - I have some uncertainty about the possibility of a higher power - but I'd say I'm pretty confident in my ideas.  But to be honest, I just don't really care if there's a God or not.  It has no relevance to my life, and never will.  I have my own personal morality, and I try to live by it every day - and we all fail to live up to our beliefs in some way.  But I find the idea that religion should somehow supplant science to be repulsive and worse, dangerous.  If we continue to treat Earth as some kind of waystation to a higher place it just gives people license to pollute, to maim, to hurt each other with impunity.  The idea that everything here is finite, that we're not going to be rescued by some savior in the sky, should make humanity, in theory, treat each other and our planet with more respect and empathy.  Of course, that doesn't happen.

So, not to sound preachy (too late), I think science deserves to have its say, especially these days.  And that's where this documentary, THE UNBELIEVERS, comes in.  In it, noted scientists and writers Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss take their show on the road, trying to explain to an increasingly polarized public about the value of science over religion.  They're joined in commentary by such people as Woody Allen, Bill Pullman, Ricky Gervais, Werner Herzog, and many others in discussing this important subject.  I liked Bill Maher's RELIGULOUS, but it seemed unnecessarily confrontational and was more of an opportunity for Maher to show how funny and clever he is against a bunch of simple people.  Even though it's probably naive, I believe a gulf can be bridged between religious and non-religious people, if only they would sit down and listen to each other.  Here's the trailer:

No release date yet, but I'm very intrigued by this movie.

Nordling, out.
