Chernin Entertainment Says It's NOON Time!

Nordling here.

I've been saying for months that there's a new renaissance in science fiction filmmaking these days - many upcoming movies are original material, with fresh filmmakers telling compelling stories with the use of newly available technology.  I'm very excited to see what's coming down the pipe in sci-fi filmmaking, and I love that shorts are helping to lead the way.

There have been some wonderful science fiction shorts in the past few years, and some of them have lead to movie deals.  According to Hollywood Reporter, Chernin Entertainment has picked up the rights to NOON, directed by Kasra Farahani, concept artist on such films as HANCOCK and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, and art director to STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.  Making shorts like this is a great way to get noticed, especially if the short is good and gives us a new perspective.  NOON is very smart, but it wisely cares about the characters more than the setting, and lets the storytelling take precedence.  Chernin Entertainment will make NOON under Farahani's direction.

Here's the short - I liked it a lot.  I have the feeling Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM covers similar subject matter, but I love how Farahani builds the tension here.  What do you think?

Nordling, out.
