Hey folks, Harry here. I first heard this rumor about Daniel Day Lewis being up for Bill the Butcher in GANGS OF NEW YORK about a month or two back, but it seems to be picking up steam. Let's hope so. Personally I feel that Daniel Day Lewis is one of the out right great actors working in cinema. He's extremely picky about his roles, and always gives so much to each of them. It'd be interesting to see the dynamic he'd have with ol Leonardo, but I know how he works with Scorsese... I love AGE OF INNOCENCE, which was his last film that I completely loved. THE BOXER had it's moments, but didn't work 100% for me... and THE CRUCIBLE... well... you know.
Harry,
don't know whether this is even news but here ya go.... (taken from British press)
Scorsese has apparently all but convinced DANIEL DAY-LEWIS to star in GANGS OF NEW YORK. Scorsese wants him to play a gangster named 'Bill the Butcher' (Bobby de Niro was originally cast but left).
hope this is useful,
geekboy.
