A.B. King forwards us an EW interview with Stallone about ROCKY VI

Hey folks, Harry here. Well, it's Stallone news... and it's Rocky news, so that can mean only one thing... AB King must've sent in a report. Believe it or not, I'm actually 100% behind a ROCKY VI, but only if they title it ROCKY V and burn all existing prints and copies of that previous log titled that. I love the ROCKY franchise, but hate Number 5.... it works almost exactly as well as STAR TREK V... another apocalypticly dreadful franchise chapter. As for MGM only wishing to pony up $10 million for ROCKY VI... That is retarded. The amount of money that a new ROCKY movie would cause for MGM easily off-sets the money that Stallone is asking to budget the film at. I mean, video and Dvd sales would be pushed and would increase in volume. And after that terrible last chapter, they just owe the franchise a decent burial. That final bell. Believe it or not, I believe there is a great deal of promise in a punch drunk once great palooka with all heart and no brains trying to do something right... And falling to never stand up again. This has potential MGM, a helluva lot more than SUPERNOVA, ROLLERBALL or a SPECIES movie.... and it's a lot cheaper.

Harry, Stallone has finally shed some light about the next ROCKY film. Cinescape.com has the official word of what was said in an interview between EW Online and Sly. Here it is:

Last year, MGM announced Rocky 6 as one of the studio's projects. Soon afterwards, though, the project seemed to have fallen off the late with word of no real deals in place… until now.

While talking to EW Online, Stallone revealed that he has been working on the 6th film's script, but there's one major stumbling block lying in the way: The budget. Word ha sit that MGM only wants to spend a relatively measly $10M on the film.

That won't work for the action actor-director. Stallone explains, "We need at least $20 or $22 million to do it. I mean, you gotta pay [Rocky's wife] Talia Shire something."

Stallone also shed some light on what his script includes, saying that the story will start with Rocky as a washed-up, aged and broke boxer who climbs back into the ring one last time to raise money for a youth organization. "I've tried to emulate a few things in reality, such as the George Foreman story," says the actor, adding that Rocky is "probably going to lose."

Should the financial side be worked out, Stallone says he would like to jump into the film after wrapping the Champs car racing film production helmed by Renny Harlin. If not, don't count on it ever happening, as Stallone says, "It's already been 10 years since Rocky V.'' says Stallone. ''What are you going to do, wait 20 years? It's now or never."
