"I Am Not A Hero!" See Tom Cruise Face Off With Werner Herzog In The New JACK REACHER Trailer!

Nordling here.

I'm a big fan of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books, and I'm still not sure whether Tom Cruise can really make the character work.  This trailer doesn't convince me either - Jack Reacher doesn't bluster, doesn't make idle threats, and he's not a braggart.  To his credit, Cruise isn't playing any of those things, judging by the trailer.  There's just something about him as an actor that doesn't mesh with what I've always pictured Reacher to be like.  Reacher's simply a bad ass that never feels the need to talk about it - he just does it.

There's a moment in the trailer that is pure Reacher - over the phone, Reacher tells some hostage takers just what they can do with their hostage - but Cruise is missing the matter-of-fact tone of the character in the book.  I don't know, but the idea of Werner Herzog as the villain makes it all a lot easier to take.  If at some point Herzog gets shot at and says, "This is not a significant bullet," I'll stand up and cheer.  Plus Christopher McQuarrie is the writer and director, which means that if it's half as gritty as THE WAY OF THE GUN this will be suitably kickass.  Here's the trailer, courtesy of Yahoo:

JACK REACHER opens this Boxing Day.
