Hey folks, I see this in about two weeks or so, and I am dying to watch the visuals of this film. A long time ago I gave up on this having anything more than a paint by numbers plot. None of the daring from Phil Tippett or Paul Verhoeven remains... Now it's just another of those... ugly duckling saves the day plots, but I'm just hoping for one of the most visually arresting films ever made. We know the effects are amazing, but after WALKING WITH DINOSAURS... and the profound sense of glee I had when the dinosaurs began shitting and pissing... I know this disturbed some people.... but my god, I've never seen that before. It made them... real. I mean, it's like with the Elephants walk through your town wing Ringling and company are in town... Shit and piss all over the place. I loved WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, and I'm getting set to buy, what I hear is an amazing dvd of it. But... if you don't want to know any spoilers on Disney's DINOSAURS... skip the following by Atouk, and just hold on another twenty or so days...
i went to the dinosaur wrap party this last weekend and i just wanted to let you know of my impressions... first, we were subjected to listening to those two big fruitcakes, tom schumacher and peter schneider, make their usual insulting speeches, then we had to listen to michael eisner thank all of us for letting him keep his job (of course, most of those in the audience are no longer working at disney thanks to the massive layoffs). the movie started off okay... until the animals started speaking. then it turned into lion king all over again, with a bit of tarzan mixed into it. there's a scene with our "hero" playing with his "family", the lemurs, just like tarzan did with baby chimps, then there's a mating sequence, with all the lemurs vying for each other's affection. of course, the ugly lemur doesn't get a partner (yawn, how predictable). there's a bit meteor shower which dessimates their land so they are forced to go with another herd that they meet to find "the golden land". of course they're pursued by some "evil" meat-eating dinosaurs so it's up to our hero to save every bit of the herd, even the little old lady dinosaurs. overall, i felt the film was the same old disney cartoon... boy has a mission, he's another outcast, he meets a girl, etc. it's cliche, cheesy, corny, all that stuff that is supposed to lure in little kids to the theatre and buy dinosaur toys. if you ask me, check your local tv listings and watch the discovery channel dinosaur documentary, which apparently was done in 2 years and for about $5 million, and is realistic and compelling, unlike the 6 year $200 million disney film.
