Vera Farmiga, whose character repeatedly boned George Clooney’s in “Up In The Air” (she snagged an Oscar nomination for her trouble), will play Norma Bates, mother of Norman, in “Bates Motel,” a new A&E series that depicts events leading up to Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.”
Longtime “Lost” showrunner Carlton Cuse is overseeing the new series with “Parenthood” writer-producer Kerry Ehrin.
A&E has ordered 10 episodes that will air next year.
TV serial killers are all the rage this season. In addition to “Bates Motel” and new seasons of “Criminal Minds” and “Dexter,” NBC is introducing the “Silence of the Lambs” prequel series “Hannibal” at midseason while Fox is unfurling “The Following,” which feels a lot like a Lecter knock-off.
