A Tuesday morning conference call with “The Office” mastermind Greg Daniels revealed that the coming ninth season of “The Office” will be its last.
Daniels, who indicated he will be more involved with the show next season than he has been since season five, said we will learn who is making the documentary and meet the documentarians before the series concludes.
Daniels said we should expect an unusually “arc-heavy” final season that will see dramatic developments for Jim and Pam. He said the idea of a final season is “very freeing” and will allow creators to “blow things up” in ways they couldn’t otherwise.
Dwight Schrute will make a charitable donation to the Taliban and we’ll learn who the Scranton Strangler is. Staffers will attend the wedding of Pam's ex-boyfriend Roy.
NBC is developing “The Farm,” a spin-off starring Rainn Wilson as Schrute that’s likely to join the NBC schedule next year.
Daniels is hopeful that Michael Scott will return but hasn’t discussed the possibility with Steve Carell yet. “He’s pretty busy,” allowed Daniels.
Season nine launches Sept. 20.
