More on the casting of SPIDER-MAN/Peter Parker

Hey folks, Harry here. Has it been bothering you that every name we've heard for SPIDER-MAN has just been... wrong. Mid Twenties to Early Thirties guys allegedly trying to pass as a 17 year old Puny Parker? It has me. The casting RUMORS that have been going around have been pretty absurd. The list of alleged candidates that came out of Michael Fleming DISH column recently seemed the most ludicrous yet. Then, when Moriarty posted that bit about Heath Ledger... well, I told him I felt it was bunk because.... Heath does not like Special Effects movies, when asked about playing Anakin, he basically said it would be a boring assignment because effects work is tedious. Not to mention that he just looks completely WRONG for the role. I just received a first time spy report from someone that I will leave... unnamed... at Sony that purports to be giving me the list of candidates for PETER PARKER/SPIDER-MAN that SONY has been considering... and from whom Sam Raimi will most likely choose. You will also notice that almost... without exception this group is basically unknown professional actors, age 17-22... the perfect age for Parker.

Dear Harry,

Long time reader, first time writer. I was reading some of the articles about Spider-Man and I was surprised you took those rumours seriously.

Now it's true that Sony considers Heath Ledger to be a hot property and would like to keep him around for awhile, I know that much, but he was never considered for the lead. Now don't expect to hear an official announcement any day sooner than June, because Raimi just wrapped The Gift a couple of weeks ago and hasn't been able to start interviewing actors since last week. Now the names I'll mention are just actors Sony had been considering for the part back when Raimi was still busy shooting The Gift, but since Raimi's involvement has become more apparent I think only a few will survive. Ashton Kutcher, Chauncey Leopardi, Christopher Jones, Jonathan Tucker, Bradley Pierce, Michael Legge, Charlie Hofheimer & Adam LaVorgna. As you can see, Sony is looking for a young unknown actor they can mould into the next big thing. A major criteria is that the actor has to agree to sign for two sequels and most of the actors previously rumoured declined to do so.

Take Care.
