Houston! The Summer Of 1982 Continues With THE LAST UNICORN This Saturday For Alamo Kids Club! Plus Nordling's Birthday Screening!

Nordling here.

That summer of 1982, the animated film that people tended to flock to was THE SECRET OF NIMH.  I like the movie myself, but I'm more of a LAST UNICORN fan.  Perhaps it's the fantasy setting, or the cool factor of the Red Bull, or maybe it was the melancholia of the whole thing - THE LAST UNICORN, for a kids' movie, is kind of a downer.  But it's got beautiful imagery, great vocal performances, including Mia Farrow, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lee, and Jeff Bridges, and yeah, I even dig the America soundtrack.  I think it's a very special movie.

And this Saturday at the Alamo Kids Club, we're screening it for free at the Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park, along with 8th Dimension Comics and Games.  Come join us this Saturday and bring the kids - as always the Kids Club is free.  And for those aficionados of the Summer of 1982, it isn't done yet - there are a few other screenings that are still coming, including an awesome one on my birthday, THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, at the Mason Park Alamo Drafthouse for Weird Wednesday.

By the way, Houstonians who are interested, I'll be screening a secret, vintage movie on August 8th, 7:30 PM, at Mason Park for my birthday.  That screening is also free (you're on your own for food and drink though) and any Houston Ain't It Cool readers are invited.  It's a movie of my choice - and no, you won't know what it is until that night - and it's one of my favorite movies of all time and I can't wait to see it on the big screen.  Sadly, it's a digital print and not 35mm, but who cares - I guarantee a terrific movie and hopefully a great time.  Come on down!

Nordling, out.  Follow me on Twitter!
