The day after I saw Karl Urban kick unholy ass in the euphorically violent DREDD, I got a chance to sit down with him to talk about his longtime love of the comic book and various storylines. I'll have that interview for you shortly, but I wanted to tease it with my final question of the interview, which had nothing to do with DREDD, and his reaction to said question. The premise of my question was to find out how much trouble Urban (who plays Dr. McCoy in the STAR TREK movies) got in recently by his STAR TREK 2 director J.J. Abrams & Co. for possibly spilling the beans that the character Benedict Cumberbach is playing is Gary Mitchell, from the original "Star Trek" series. This is how he responded…
Capone: I have to ask, how much hot water did you get in for that bit of news you let slip about STAR TREK 2 last week?
Karl Urban: I was afraid you were going to ask that. J.J. Abrams sent me something for Comic-Con this week and told me that anytime I was asked a question about STAR TREK, I had to do this…[Karl removes a long strip of masking tape with something written on it off the leg of his jeans, where it has been stuck since he walked in the room, then proceeds to do this, posing for my photographer, Gavin "Malone" Stokes, quite willingly]
Capone: I guess that answers the question.
Very funny. Urban also revealed that before the end of Comic-Con, footage from the STAR TREK sequel will land up on YouTube, so keep an eye out for that.
