Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with some pretty kickass shorts for your very own viewing pleasure - that is of course if you dig horror (which if you don't - I just might have to question how cool I think you are...) Anyways, it's also rather late in the day, so we could call this one "Early Sunday Shorts!" and honestly folks I apologize if you feel slightly shafted by having to wait this long - my day job's gearing up to shift into overdrive and I've been needed to man the fort all day, so again - my bad. Anyways, let's hop to it. Let's relax for a bit and check out some creepy films that we all get to watch right here at good ol' Ain't It Cool. It still blows my mind to know that soo many readers out there have made some killer stuff - I'm still getting inundated with cool short after cool short and by no means do I hope it stops - keep bringing it. If you've been on the fence about shooting yours at me - just do it and who knows, you could be up next week or the week after that. Or don't, your call - just be sure to keep checking in to see what your fellow AICN readers are coming up with!

NIGHT OF THE PUNKS

To kick things off, here's Dan Riesser's splatfest of awesome, a 19 minute long well executed love letter to 80's splat films. Small town punk rockers THE BRAIN DEADS have their first out of town gig. But there are a few problems: The venue is deserted, the promoter is a creep, their bass player has gone missing, and the only kids in the audience appear to be bloodthirsty monsters from hell. It's gonna take a lot more than a few power chords and teenage angst to survive this night. Check out the film's site HERE and Dan's site HERE.

THE ANGEL

Next up is Paul Hough's creepy as hell, tonally continous punch to the gut and well crafted short, THE ANGEL. The word "intense" seems to fit here, but I'll let you guys judge.
THE CONGREGATION

And bam, straight to Mike Faulke's film that involves the Amish and a bit of evil. This is in fact the first Amish inspired short I think I've ever seen (not counting MC Weird Al's stuff). Seriously, it's great and has a certain heaviness to it that seems to just work, where you can feel the blood, sweat, and tears that must've gone into it.
I just recently completed a short film that I'm very excited about called "The Congregation" which is a more personal take on the zombie apocalypse genre. It is seen purely from the point of view of an isolated Amish community that has been overtaken by the epidemic and, because of their beliefs in pacifism, will not fight back against the walking dead. If they don't fight back, they won't live through the night, but if they do fight back, they believe it will lead to eternal damnation.

SUCCUBUS

Making his second pop up on SATURDAY SHORTS is Martin Vrede, with a film he built with his brother. A man has abandoned hope. He fuels and drowns his indifference with drugs and alcohol. One night he comes upon a sensuous woman who searches in him his lust for life. At the same time an unsettling stranger seems to have other interests in the man. Check out all of his stuff HERE.

And that's the last film of the evening ladies and gents. I feel like this week was made up of quite a few creepy little nightmare inducing snippets of cinematic gold, but what do you think? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Whatever your thoughts - I'm hopeful the films directors are in the audience and would love to hear them, though first rule of SATURDAY SHORTS, "Don't be a dick." Seriously, have an issue with a film's color palette/actor/camera placement/lighting...? No biggy, I just ask that you constructively put it out there instead of bashing on anything in particular - filmmaking is hard as hell and I know the sole reason you're here is because you love movies - just keep that in mind. (Not censoring or tossing out a "ban hammer" here, just really... SATURDAY SHORTS is a celebration of "Holy shit, that's cool and someone just like me made it with no/very little money a whole hell of a lot of creativity!")
