Hey folks, Harry here. Ya know folks, some of you are some cynical asses. Terry the Terrorist is not a studio shill... As a matter of fact, I'm sure that the folks at Fox are appalled that this review is up on the site. You see... at FOX, they hate advance reviews, positive or negative, because it demonstrates a lack of control based upon their control of advance hype. If you talk to Bill Mechanic about the TITANIC test screening reports, he doesn't smile and be happy... he talks about how they could have gone the other way. To Fox, the job of talking about their films comes from within their Publicity departments... not AICN. Now... as for this review, Terry the Terrorist is just a regular joe. Here's the letter I got from the source based upon your talkbacks.... enjoy...
Thanks for taking the time to post my review. I now understand how hard your job is. it made me laugh reading all the talk backs. next time I'll try to write a more indepth review. just between you and me, the movie did truly rock. Upon further thought their are flaws, but you find flaws in all movies. They are minor and the action takes you away and picks up the slack. This is a truely great film that some people will of course dislike but many will love it if they see it.
Thanks for your time
Terry the Terrorist
Here's a look at that TITAN A.E. test screening from yesterday. This reviewer had a great time with it. Of course, Father Geek is aware that opinions will probably vary greatly on this flick, but the clips I've seen are pretty cool and I like the look of their trailer, so I'm looking forward to it in June. I don't care if it is just a mix of elements from the WING COMMANDER game, Battlestar Galactica, Last Starfighter, Waterworld, and Star Wars. Nothing has really been new, plot wise, since the Greek playwrights laid it all out thousands of years ago anyway.
Just got back from a research preview of one of the more anticipated sci-fi films recently, Titan A.E. Let me start off by saying I love Star Wars, I even really enjoyed Phantom Menace, however I must say I left this screening happier and more satisfied after seeing Titan A.E. This movie kicked my ass. The plot was good, the characters were prettty good and fun, and the pace was perfect. As for the sound track, it turns out it's just so perfect and gels with the scenes.
I don't want to give up any spoilers but let me tell you a little bit of what I enjoyed:
Characters:
Cale: voice by Matt Damon. What Damon brings is ease and charm to a role that could have been a stubborn and whining main character. You'll like Cale and enjoy going on this adventure with him.
Akima: voice by Drew Barrymore. If only the Drew in real life looked as good as her character here! You don't realize the potential of an actress until you don't have to see them.
Korso: voice by Bill Pullman. I like Bill Pullman in the right role. This is it. His character is the more adult leader and he has issues, but he is great to watch.
Preed: voice by Nathan Lane. A fine job. It was refreshing to hear a character other than the screaming queens he's been doing for the last few years. You'll remember that he's a very talented voice artist.
Gune: voice by John Leguizamo. This was the only voice I had to wait until the credits (actually the score card, There were no credits on this print) to see who did it. I really enjoyed this little nutcase and liked him from the first line.
Stith: voice by Janeane Garlfalo. I enjoyed her kangaroo like character. A very funny turn for someone who's a weapons expert, but not the best shot.
The Action:
There were a lot of good action sequences. The chase though the Hydrogen trees was my personal favorite, but the next best had to be the cat and mouse game through the ice field. Although the animation was not completely finished, the sequence was beautiful and awesome.
A lot of people will try to compare it to Star Wars, but it is iconic and hard to make Sci-fi with out looking to it for comparison. One person in the focus group called it a rip off, but it was because there were some familiar archetypes that will draw comparison always.
In the focus group, out of 20 people of various sexes and ages, the movie was rated excellent by 15, good by 4, and fair by 1. I will highly recommend this movie because of the high adventure, the excellent score and the action and visuals.
No, I don't work for Fox. It truly is a good movie and it really sucks having to wait until June to see it again with the finished animation.
They call me Terry, the Terrorist.
