The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day has been revoltingly unfaithful to you, I’m afraid.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

The internet situation in my temporary hotel in Juan de Pins, just outside of Cannes, is what the Egyptians of old would have called “fucking retarded.” I read that in a book somewhere. So, I have spent about 12 hours trying to download all my emails, fighting with a signal that likes to play peek-a-boo at random times, but I’ve managed to pick up my press badge for the fest and sneak in a screening of Moonrise Kingdom (review forthcoming. Preview: I liked it!), so I’m not a total lazy-ass.

Today’s pic features a quality Stanley Kubrick production that isn’t quite as discussed as his later films… at least not in movie geek circles. Sure, most of us have seen Lolita and most of us think it’s great, but it’s not exactly as quotable as Full Metal Jacket or The Shining or A Clockwork Orange.

When you consider the time in which Lolita was made, the subject matter and how Kubrick handles it, it’s frankly shocking to me that the movie exists.

But it does and it exists with a great central performance by James Mason, no less. Today’s shot is of one of the most iconic scenes from the film, with young Sue Lyon at her most seductive. I love the look on Kubrick’s face… it’s almost like a disapproving parent!

Thanks to Pat Barnett for sending this one along! Click to enlargen!

Tomorrow’s pic is repulsive.
