They may not agree on whether Deckard's a replicant, but that won't stop them from making another BLADE RUNNER movie together!
According to a press release, screenwriter Hampton Fancher is in talks to "develop the idea for the original screenplay" for Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER sequel. The film will take place "some years after" the conclusion of the first movie. As for where the film will take place or which characters from BLADE RUNNER (if any) will return, that has yet to be revealed.
While I'm all for Scott monkeying around with the up-and-down ALIEN series, I'm not sure how I feel about a return to the BLADE RUNNER universe. At least they're moving forward with a writer who probably won't be inclined to give fans what they think they want. We shouldn't see attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, or C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate (fuck SOLDIER). Those are Roy Batty's moments, not ours. And they are lost in time...
It'll be interesting to see if fans have an appetite for a BLADE RUNNER sequel after PROMETHEUS - and whether that film will be big enough to justify a sizable budget for a follow-up to a commercial failure. Very curious about this one. Can't say I'm excited yet.
