So What Exactly Is Marion Cotillard's Role In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES??

The Kidd here...

By now, everyone has their theories and ideas about how Christopher Nolan is planning to wrap up his Batman trilogy come July. However, with still little to no information coming from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, we continue to go full steam ahead with more questions than answers, and I'm sure Nolan is loving it.

Is Bruce Wayne going to get killed off?

Does Bane break the Bat?

What's the deal with John Blake?

How does Catwoman factor in?

And, of course, who exactly is Marion Cotillard playing?

Miranda Tate is the answer we've been given to the latter, but that can't be true. After all, the momentum has been picking up on Cotillard being cast to play Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Liam Neeson's Ra's, bringing all three films full circle to some extent.

Cotillard has finally shed a bit of light onto who her character really is in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and guess what?

She's really playing Miranda Tate.

Wait... what?

All she'll confirm is that, contrary to some fans' belief, she does not play Talia, the vengeful daughter of Liam Neeson's character, Ra's Al Ghul (who also appeared in BATMAN BEGINS), and that she takes the role of Miranda Tate, an ecologically minded businesswoman who "is fascinated by Wayne Enterprises. They go through difficulties, and she wants to help provide the world clean energies. She's a good guy." But does she stay that way? "Yes," she insists.

So there is no Talia Al Ghul at all...? Or is that simply what Cotillard and Nolan would like you to believe?

You've really got to hand it to Christopher Nolan for keeping us completely in the dark on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, so that, once we finally do see it, everything will feel like a surprise. Even with Marion Cotillard revealing a bit more about her character, it still feels like we're not being told the truth... even if we are. Our speculation has run so rampant that, even if Cotillard is being completely honest, we don't believe her. That way, if Talia Al Ghul does show up in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES... Surprise!!!

Oh, sure... we may have been lied to, but won't we wind up forgiving for that bit of misdirection, if it makes for a nice twist during the film? And if Talia Al Ghul is no part of TDKR, then... well, they told us so. We should have believed them.

This feels like a bit of gamesmanship from TDKR camp, and I must say... well played, sir. Even when faced with what feels like facts, we're left to dispute them. These next couple of months are going to drive me crazy.
