In the tradition of CADDYSHACK 2, MEATBALLS 2, BLUES BROTHERS 2000, FLETCH 2, PORKY'S 2, WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S 2 and so on... Universal Pictures has decided to begin rushing an AMERICAN PIE 2 film. First, I'd call this one AMERICAN COBBLER and get rid of the number. BUT... never mind the fact that Miramax alone has 4 A.P. clones, Dreamworks has one, and just about everyone else does too. Sure it's a fairly cheap deal to do. And if the 2/3rds formula works... hey... it's still a shitload of money... Unless it just completely tanks. Here's the info... Personally Stacey, I'd be working on ORIGINAL CONTENT and FRANCHISES, but that's just me. Still can't believe you numbskulls passed on HELLBOY, friggin dullards.
Here is a little tidbit that came out of the March 26th Los Angeles Times Magazine (writer Patrick Goldstein is credited with for the article). This was an interview with Stacey Snider...Universal Pictures Chairman. The article talked about a lot of crap but the little bits about American Pie 2 sparked my curiosity....
"There's a hint of urgency in the room. For a studio that's only a year removed from on of the worst slumps in its history, a successful sequel to "American Pie" is high priority. The $11-million film was one of the studio's most profitable movies last year, making $200 million worldwide, and Snider has dreams of a franchise as lucrative as Scream 1-3. Even though the writers have just begun work on the script, the second "Pie" installment slated for the release in the summer of 2001. Adam Herz, who wrote the original film and is supervising "Pie 2" screenwriter Dave H. Steinberg, sketches a scenario that would reunite the "Pie" guys the summer after their freshman year in college."......"At one point, Steinberg suggests a possible plot twist in which on the lead would bed both of his fantasy women"........."During the "American Pie" sequel meeting, there is much discussion of a running gag where one of the guys only meets older women, never anyone his own age"
