Yo Harry...this is my first time writing in, but anyway, I saw a screening of Species II tonight (There are some spoilers here, BTW. Edit at your leisure.). It was still a pretty rough cut, but I expect that they'll have it drastically improved by the time it's publicly released. The version I saw had practically no music, and some CGI uncompleted (notably in the really cheesy space scenes in the beginning depicting the space shuttle.
The Mars scenes look like they just ripped some stuff off NASA.) The rest of the fx were pretty rough. Judging from the audience response, the film wasn't too great, except for the huge umm...humping scenes around 30 minutes in, where Astronaut Ross is getting it on with these two sisters. Practically every character he does it with shows her breasts, and a lot of skin, but never any of the NC-17 parts, obviously. Anyway, about ten seconds after he does each of them, their wombs bust open, they die, and there's a lot of blood and gore. Then two kids (who look around 8 yrs.) appear, one for each sister, you understand. He does this a lot. He ends up with at least 15 kids by the end of the movie.
Other cool scenes include this scene where Ross realizes something's wrong and blows his head off with a shotgun, but it just regenerates back. There are also numerous humorous scenes throughout the film, but it wouldn't be funny if I just explained them. The battle at the end where they kill the alien sucked pretty bad. In fact, the ending sucked pretty bad. There's this shot of the American flag at the end, and I have no idea why whatsoever.
Overall, the film was trite, with nothing really original. The aliens, whether they're puppets or whatever, just aren't that cool. They were ugly as hell, and reminded me too much of Predator. And there is one weird scene where it looks like there's a big ol' long penis extending out of the male alien into some orifice on the female. Whatever. Anyway, the aliens are only on for about 10 minutes. The film was about 1h, 40m. And that's about it...
