Hey folks, Harry here with something that I believe is going to be a television project, but I'm not really sure. Though I do believe that it will be. I'm a huge gigantic frothing at the mouth fanboy fan of Harryhausen's superfantastic version of JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS... and I also happen to feel that it will never be equaled. In my mind's eye... Todd Armstrong is Jason. HOWEVER, being a fan of mythology... Harryhausen made some cinematic decisions about what characters and mythological beasties and how to portray them that strayed from the original material... and it seems that... whatever this project is... it's trying to do a more faithful adaptation. I wish em the best of luck, I just hope that they fix this dragon's, or whatever it is, eye... as that eye is TERRIBLE. If you click on the images after the article, you'll get great big versions to pour over. Personally, I'm really looking forward to this bronze bull scene... that storyboard/pre-production art looks magnificient! If you've heard anything more about this project... Let me know...
Harry,
Here are a couple of decently large scans of the article from CGI magazine that I promised you at Savini Fest 2000 (which rocked BTW). This does not appear to be the "Time Bandits" like script that you mentioned to me, but rather a remake of Jason by the Hallmark Entertainment Company, The Frame Store (a CG company, not a picture shop :P ), and Jim Henson's creature shop.
Going for a more "true to the myth" feel; the Dragon is more like the greek view of a dragon than the hydra in the original Argonauts film, and the bronze bull that Jason tames is being reintroduced. The production values look strong, but it is unclear whether this is actually going to be a full theatrical release or a super expensive TV movie (the budget is around $25 million). Hallmark and Jim Henson's Creature Shop have collaberated for some time on TV with works such as "Moby Dick", "Animal Farm" (which I though was a rather good version of the book/play), and the awesome SF TV series "Farscape" (which continues to be one of the best written shows on television after the short lived "Profit"), but I have yet to see a theatrical release from them. Could this be it? Can they actually redo this story without being enternally in the Master Ray Harryhausen's shadow?
I don't know, but it looks like they're on the right track.
"The Visigoth"
BTW Included images are scans of both the article and pictures. The pictures include a sketch of Jason riding the Bronze Bull, the Bronze Bull maquette, and two nice shots of the near completed CGI Dragon.
