I'm a longtime reader, film development assistant at one of the indy studios in NY.
I figured this was old news, but I read in last month's TEEN MONTHLY (i swear it's my little sister's subscription and NOT mine!!) that Ricky Martin and Britney Spears were in talks to co-star in the DIRTY DANCING re-do. Apparently, Ricky Martin has expressed interest in both starring AND choreographing the film, which is why he said he's still in negotiations.
As for Natalie Portman: I had heard that Portman had only been CONSIDERED for the film, and she was only once approached to do it. Months ago, she had expressed interest in DIRTY DANCING by saying that she was a huge fan of the original. However, her tentative schedule on STAR WARS Episode 2 (in addition to a supposedly weak sequel treatment) prompted Portman to turn down DD2. Smart advisement by her agents, if you ask me.
