John Ary here with an exclusive peak at DC Entertainment's new venture.
Let's first take a moment to say goodbye to DC Direct. It has been nice knowing you. Thanks for the action figures, statues and collectibles. Your Kingdom Come Superman proudly guards my cubicle at the office. Au revoir.
Now, let's say hello to its replacement, DC Collectibles. In early May, the new merchandising arm for DC Comics, MAD, and Vertigo will expand to offer its entire product line for sale on the web. For fans who prefer to shop locally, the updated website will also provide information on the closest retail location that carries a particular DC Collectibles product.
When you click “Buy” on an item, two options will pop up. The retail option asks for your zip code, so the website can direct you to the closest comic retailer.
As part of the big relaunch, DC Collectibles will offer two new “online exclusive” products and a new line of custom prints. The Flashpoint Action Figure Box Set includes Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, a previously unreleased Emperor Aquaman and a $500 Wayne Casino Poker Chip. The Heroes of the DC Universe: Blackest Night Green Lantern and Sinestro Bust makes up the second online exclusive. DC Collectibles will also make available twenty new prints. Chief creative officer and DC comic book scribe Geoff Johns will show off more of the new DC Collectibles products this weekend at C2E2 in Chicago.
Finally, as the brother-in-law of a guy who owns a comic shop, I would be remiss if I did not to say the following: While the new DC Collectibles relaunch will make it much easier for you to find your next Batman action figure online, please don't forget to support your local comic book shops and specialty retailers.
