Check Out this Kickass Trailer for SXSW Sweetheart AMERICAN ANIMAL

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with a bit of news on a flick I've been following since SXSW 2011. Itunes just released a pretty kickass trailer HERE that should give you a damn good idea of what the film has in store. While I know movies like BATTLESHIP, THE AVENGERS, and PROMETHEUS are surely on your radar for this summer's onslaught of blockbuster fun - AMERICAN ANIMAL should absolutely be on your list as well as it's got a May 18th theatrical release date. I wish I could embed the trailer below, but I can't urge you enough to click the link above and check it out.

I gave the film a pretty positive write up a little while ago HERE, but our very own Ain't It Cool News well  respected alumni Drew McWeeny ("Moriarty") also seems to dig the film from his Hitfix review HERE. Fair warning, there are no explosions, robots, or things like that in this film, though it's got some incredible performances wrapped around an incredibly well told film about an eccentricly ill young man. Is it an indie film? Sure. Is it your standard run of the mill indie flick that takes place in one location that doesn't really seem to go anywhere? Hell no! Somehow first time feature director D'Elia's hit that magical sweet spot where he's built a strong film that centers around four people in a relatively small environment and takes place in a short amount of time, but certainly leaves you feeling satisfied and optimistic as you walk out of the theater.

Jimmy is a terminally ill young man. He is also quite eccentric, bordering on plain old crazy, and starting today he has decided that he is ‘happy’ and no longer sick. Jimmy’s roommate James is a healthy, dreamy young man. They’re best friends. They live together. They don’t do much of anything and they seem very happy that way. Today, they have a couple of female friends over to their downtown Los Angeles loft for just another day of drinks, drugs, board games and casual sex, among other things. All seems well. But trouble arises when it gets revealed that James will be leaving for a new job in the morning. Jimmy, feeling betrayed, is not pleased by this development. He sees it as nothing short of the destruction of the perfect little world that they’ve set up, and a humorous battle of wills ensues as James prepares for the real world and Jimmy falls deeper and deeper into his world of illness, isolation, and make-believe.

So there we are guys and gals. While I'm sure my tastes might not agree with 100% of you out there, I really dug the flick and hope you can give it a shot! I don't think you'll be dissapointed. (Though if you get a chance to check it out and don't dig it - feel free to shoot me an email with your thoughts.)
